St. Petersburg, FL — A new poll conducted by GQR shows Rep. Anna Paulina Luna trailing Brigadier General (Ret.) Leela Gray, signaling a huge pick-up opportunity for Democrats in November.
”Republican, Democratic, and Independent voters are rightfully fed up with Anna Paulina Luna and the corruption overtaking Washington. She has done nothing to lower costs for Floridians, instead only caring about raising her own profile on Capitol Hill,” said Gray. “Floridians are ready for new leadership rooted in the principle of service over self. I spent 30 years in the Army serving this country in uniform, and I’m running for Congress to bring that same mission-first leadership to Congress to clean up Washington and find common-sense solutions.”
Poll’s Key Findings:
From Deficit to Lead — Gray Overtakes Luna: Gray begins the race trailing Luna 44% to 47%, but after voters hear the contrast between both candidates, the race flips in her favor — Gray leads 47% to 45%, a net swing of 5 points.
Luna's Image Is Underwater With Her Own Constituents: Despite 94% name recognition, voters are split on Luna (42% Favorable / 43% Unfavorable) — and independents have a strongly unfavorable view (28% Favorable / 54% Unfavorable).
Trump is Unpopular: Donald Trump's favorability in FL-13 has fallen further still, now underwater by 8 points (45% Favorable / 53% Unfavorable) — even as Republicans hold a 14-point registration advantage and a 7-point party ID edge in the district.
Independents Abandoning Luna: Gray wins a commanding 58% of NPA voters in the final vote, cementing her advantage with the swing voters who will decide this race.
Voters See Luna as a Rubber Stamp: More than three-quarters of voters (77%) believe Luna simply votes the party line — a damning number for an incumbent trying to make the case she represents Pinellas and Pasco County first.
Democrats and Independents Are More Fired Up: 57% of Democrats and 55% of NPA voters say they're more enthusiastic about voting this year than in past elections, compared to just 47% of Republicans — a clear enthusiasm gap heading into November.
A retired Army Brigadier General, third-generation veteran, mom, and small business leader, Leela Gray is building grassroots momentum in this race. Gray’s campaign, centered on lowering costs, ending corruption in Washington, fighting for veterans, seniors, and working families, offers a sharp contrast to Luna’s selfish approach to service.
Gray’s candidacy has earned the backing of EMILY's List, VoteVets, New Politics, Veterans for Responsible Leadership, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Senator Mark Kelly, and Congressional members Katherine Clark and Jason Crow, along with local leaders including former FL-13 Democratic nominee Whitney Fox and Safety Harbor Mayor Joe Ayoub.
